
Kihei is a census-designated place (CDP) in Maui County, Hawaiʻi. The population was 16,749 at the 2000 census. From 2000 to 2007, the population increased 11.1% to 18,627.

Kihei is located at 20°45′33″N, 156°27′26″W (20.759122, -156.457228)GR1.
Kihei has a total area of 11.9 square miles, of which, 10.2 square miles of it is land and 1.7 square miles of it (14.55%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16,749 people, 6,170 households, and 3,813 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,648.6 people per square mile. There were 9,170 housing units at an average density of 902.6/sq mi.
There were 6,170 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% were married couples living together, and 38.2% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.31.
The population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 36.2% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years.
